In BETWEEN THE BRICKS, written by Anthony Giorgio, I play Princess - a young girl who finds herself stuck in Oz after running away from home with her Prince. There's been an upset in power since Dorothy clicked her heels, and somehow Prince and Princess have found themselves tangled in the middle of a power battle for control of Oz. The music is all written by Davey Patterson, and has a super original rock vibe. Lots of dissonance, lots of high belting, lots of crazy harmonies and complicated rhythm. It's definitely been a workout - couldn't have done it without all that music theory training (thanks Gary)! :)
Tomorrow night we perform the reading for it's first real audience, and I'm super excited! We'll be performing a book-in-hand reading, meaning we hold our scripts and use minimal blocking. Tonight we basically put the whole show together, and I think if everything goes well it's going to be a really neat show.
I've spent a lot of time in this last year or so working on new musicals - it's SO inspiring to work with people who pour their hearts and souls into these shows. The shows are so much a piece of them...and giving us the chance to become part of their work, to help shape the shows from the ground up...that's one of the coolest things I could ever ask for as an actor. So a big thank you to our writers Anthony and Davey - I'm totally stoked to be your Princess!
